Many visitors come to Aysgarth to see the Falls famous since the early 19th century thanks to artists such as J.M.Turner
But that is a small part of Aysgarth for further west is the main village which even got a mention in the Domesday Book.
For centuries the village green has been a focus for community events and that continues today, particularly on August Bank Holiday Monday when the village fete is usually held.
In 'normal times' this begins with a variety of stalls on the green which are cleared away later ready for the children’s sports (below) . Hawes Silver Band provides the music for those enjoying teas outside the institute.
